*This exhibition is a collaboration between the art group "Hyperfiction" and the artist "Gonil."
*"Hyperfiction" is the name of the art group of which Gonil is the representative.

<Gonil comment>

As the coronavirus pandemic gradually subsides and we are returning to our normal daily lives, I felt that the time had come for me as an artist to say something out loud. I decided to hold this exhibition because I wanted to express my feelings through art that I learned during my childhood and abroad.

The main character of this exhibition is the well-known Captain Hook.

As the name suggests, Captain Hook's hand is a hook. The hand expresses cruelty and unconsciousness, and at the same time it signifies uncertainty.

The act of drawing a picture involves manual errors and distortions, but in this process, humans have the experience of drawing, and in the process, they are faced with latent memories and create imaginative results. Sometimes.

What I thought was most important while working on hyperfiction were the misunderstandings and distortions that occur during the process of conversation and drawing, and although they are connected to the unconscious, they are very difficult to handle. It made sense that the problem of being difficult to handle was connected to Hook's hand-painting, and I naturally began to think of Captain Hook.

Captain Hook's hand is a symbol of the act of "drawing" that we concentrate on, and at the same time, it can also represent the missing parts in the results that we check after training or using AI .

This exhibition expresses modernity and diversity as seen through hyperfiction.

Fictions

Machine learning in AI refers to inputting data, using it to assign weights to an algorithm, and repeating those corrections to improve the results. AI uses data to learn, recognize patterns in the data, and use that to make predictions about new data.

The artist's process of painting involves a kind of dialogue while observing the changes on the canvas, and during this process, he uses unpredictable data such as "weather," "texture of paint," "memory," and "unconsciousness." If we assume that AI machine learning and humans drawing pictures have many things in common in the process, we assume that AI machine learning and human drawing have a lot in common in the process.

``Hyperfiction'' means that if people like us, who have strong egos and have led unique lives, created ``proper'' works of art, wouldn't they be truly interesting? This is a group that started out of curiosity.

Gonil and Hyperfiction made various attempts to bring out each other's potential within the limited time available.

the result,

A. The act of the artist having a conversation with the canvas
B. Acts where users utilize AI such as ChatGPT
C. The act of drawing out the unconscious and creativity through a close dialogue between me and hyperfiction.

Putting the above three actions on the same line, I started thinking about `` What kind of dialogue can we have through the work of Gonil now in 2023 ? ''

Fictions is a story about the process by which AI learns.

Using analog methods as much as possible, we collected data on the artists' unconscious, memories, and preferences, and tried to embody each artist's unique and personal experiences with our own hands.

Artists express memories in their heads through pictures, and in the process of translating their thoughts into actions, they have new experiences , but most of these experiences are not directly related to the object they were originally trying to express, or are Most of the time, when viewed from a third-person perspective, it is interpreted in a different way.

We approached the artist's other memories and unconscious mind, which are connected to new interpretations created by experience , and repeated the process of creating images again.

As a result, the theme of the work naturally changed as the work progressed, and although it was not a direct record of my own experiences, I was able to visualize the story that naturally runs through my life.
